Thomas Richard Woods, Sr.
Thomas Richard “Dick” Woods, Sr. 89, passed away, Monday, February 27, 2023.
Born in Ridgeland, S.C., on February 20, 1934, he was the son of the late Harry P. Woods and Sara P. Miller. Dick lived his childhood years in both Ridgeland, SC and Jacksonville, FL. In keeping with his “never meet a stranger approach,” he remained in contact with many of his childhood friends over the years. After graduation from the University of South Carolina (Go Cocks!), in 1958 he started his engineering career in Jacksonville, FL. Shortly thereafter, Dick relocated his family to Greenville, SC., where he joined J. E. Sirrine. Later, he became a partner in MBTB Architects and Engineers and then retired from Enright Associates. Dick thoroughly enjoyed his work and met many of his longtime friends during his career. He cherished the memories with these friends.
Dick enjoyed spending time with his family. He was always available to provide whatever was needed to help his family. He also enjoyed his automobiles and the continued maintenance that kept him active. He was a longtime member of the local Mustang club, which allowed him to display his 1991 “fox body”. He was a fanatical Gamecock fan over the years, (which probably shortened his life), but he relished in their recent success. He truly did enjoy life and sharing time with others.
He is survived by his sister, Patricia W. Spangler (Phil); children, Thomas R. Jr, Sara W. McConnell, and George A. (Landace), as well as grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A private service will be held by the family.
