Theodore “Ted” Girard Jones

Theodore Girard Jones, age 73, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Sunday, February 1, 2026 at AnMed Medical Center.

Born November 22, 1952 in Camden, NJ, “Ted,” as he preferred to be called, was the son of the late Theopolis “Sonny” Jones and Eleanor May Matthews Miller. He was also preceded in death by his beloved Grandmother May Olive Matthews and stepfather Frederick Carl Miller.

Ted grew up in Camden and later in Atco, NJ and graduated from Edgewood Regional High School. He joined The United States Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, NY and there studied Mathematics and Literature from 1970-1971, but was forced to leave in good academic standing due to illness. He went on to earn his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Richard Stockton State College (now Stockton University) in 1975. He graduated from the Technical Institute of Camden County in 1996.

He worked in an array of occupations over the years. He served as a Teacher’s Aide at The Atlantic County New School, Harbor Hall School for Emotionally Disturbed Children, Archway School for Exceptional Children, and Bancroft School. His career blossomed when he took on work in Maintenance. In that capacity, he worked at the Cherry Hill Hyatt, the Wyndham Hotel, and a host of other facilities. Along the way he earned his HVAC/R Universal Certification and NJ Black Seal Boiler License. He completed his career at The Marriott in Mount Laurel, NJ.

Ted enjoyed running in his younger years and later continued to walk many miles a day. He was passionate about music and loved too many bands and artists to name. He never lost his enjoyment of cartoons and superheroes. He liked sports including basketball, tennis, hockey, and soccer, but he was most excited about football and his absolute favorite team was The Washington Redskins (now known as The Washington Commanders). He continued to think they could make it to the Super Bowl. He was often quiet and mysterious but he made friends wherever he went. He enjoyed going to church and was very involved with his faith.

He is survived by his wife, Pearl Margaret Jones and their daughters Sharon Johnson (Gary) and Christina Camarena (Pedro), grandchildren John, Sydni, and Garon, sisters Wanda Jones aka Naomi Young and Robin Renée, cousin Paul Matthews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
