June Herndon Knight
June Herndon Knight, 73, of Antreville, South Carolina, passed away on October 2, 2026, after a long illness. She was born Norma June Herndon in Georgetown on April 23, 1953, the fourth child of Rev. George Roy Herndon and Mary Lee (Newton) Herndon. She graduated from Parker High School in Greenville and married her high school sweetheart, Donald Royce Knight, in 1974. (Sparks flew when she passed him a note in French class.)
June graduated from Greenville Technical College with an associate degree in chemical technology – and was awarded “Miss Technical” in the campus beauty contest. Her varied career included work in chemistry, elementary education, figurine painting, insurance, and veterinary and senior care. For several years, she bred Chinese Shar-Pei dogs and was an avid animal parent throughout her life.
June is survived by her husband of 52 years, Don Knight; their two sons, Donald Jason Knight of Greenville and Adam Herndon Knight and wife Mary Jane of Iowa City, Iowa; grandchildren Daniel Schatzle and Micah and Mara Claassen; her sisters, Jeanne Russell and husband John and Janet Noterman and husband Brad; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved in-laws, Royce and Katherine Knight; her brother, George R. Herndon, Jr.; and her sister, Joyce Long.
June will be remembered for her crazy humor and the deep, genuine, unconditional love she shared: a love that impacted all who knew her and affected positive and lasting change.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 10, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Iva (9536 Highway 81 South), with a gathering to follow at the home of Curt and Caroline Rodgers in Antreville.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate (whose excellent care she received) or the Greenville Fine Arts Center.
