Dr. Jack Dewitt Wise Jr.
Dr. Jack DeWitt Wise, Jr., 81, of Anderson, South Carolina, passed away on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, service, and compassion for others.
Born on November 2, 1944, to the late Jack DeWitt Wise, Sr. and Lois Crum Wise, Jack lived a life marked by adventure, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to helping others. In 1962, he joined the United States Navy, proudly serving his country during the Vietnam War before receiving an honorable discharge in 1966. He continued his service in the Naval Reserve and as a Merchant Marine, experiences that helped shape his lifelong love of the sea and sailing.
Jack earned his bachelor’s degree from Sonoma State University and his Doctor of Chiropractic degree from Western States in 1976. He practiced chiropractic care in California for many years before making his way to South Carolina, where he married the love of his life, Dr. Marylouise Schultz Wise, in 1994. Together, they built not only a beautiful life but also a shared legacy of healing through Complete Healing and Wellness Center, which they owned and operated for 33 years.
For Jack, chiropractic care was never simply a profession. It was an opportunity to make a difference in the lives of others. He believed in caring for the whole person, offering his patients not only treatment but also genuine compassion, encouragement, and, quite often, a healthy dose of his signature dry wit. His quick humor and unmistakable sailor’s vocabulary could catch you off guard, but beneath that occasionally colorful exterior was a man with an extraordinarily generous heart. Jack had a way of putting others before himself, often quietly extending kindness without ever expecting recognition.
Outside the office, Jack embraced life’s adventures. He loved traveling with Marylouise, spending time on the water sailing, and enjoying the companionship of their beloved golden retrievers, Astro and Clover. Whether exploring new destinations, enjoying the open sea, or simply spending time with those he loved, Jack appreciated the moments that made life meaningful.
Above all, Jack will be remembered for the lives he touched, the laughter he shared, and the love he gave so freely. His compassion extended far beyond the walls of his practice, and his legacy lives on in the countless patients, friends, and family members whose lives are better because they knew him.
Jack is survived by his beloved wife, Dr. Marylouise Schultz Wise; his daughters, Ruth Ann Thorn and her partner, Jens Rossen Feil, and Mandy Braidic and her husband, Kevin; his cherished grandchildren, Isabella Thorn, Connor Braidic, and Kendall Braidic; his sister, Barbara Wise; and his nephew, Cody Hagen.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack DeWitt Wise, Sr. and Lois Crum Wise.
A celebration of Jack’s life will be held on Friday, October 9, 2026, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at McDougald Event Center, 2303 North Main Street, Anderson, South Carolina 29621. Family and friends are invited to gather, share memories, and celebrate a man whose life was filled with service, adventure, laughter, and love.
Jack’s journey on this earth may have ended, but the love he shared, the kindness he showed, and the countless lives he touched will remain his lasting legacy.
Fair winds and following seas, Dr. Wise. Until we meet again.
