Genoveffa Capra
service
Genoveffa (ne Capra) Velotta, 96 years of age, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, July 22, 2024, peacefully in her daughter and son-in-law’s home. Genoveffa was born December 14, 1927, in Campobasso, Italy in a quaint small town called San Polo Matese to the late Michele and Cristina Velotta. Genoveffa and her late husband Salvatore made the journey to the United States in the late 1960s with their four children and lived in Cleveland, Ohio where they attended Holy Redeemer Church. Genoveffa worked as a seamstress, then as a chef at Dino’s Restaurant in Cleveland. She enjoyed gardening with her husband, and they grew many vegetables along with flourishing fig trees. It brought Genoveffa much joy to share her produce and homemade tomato sauce with family and friends. In her 90s she started taking up painting and created many beautiful pieces for her loved ones to enjoy.
Genoveffa loved reading her bible, praying with and for others, spending time with her family, cooking with her grandchildren, and wearing a smile on her face. She was an amazing and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She was referred to as Nonna by most throughout the later years of her life and had a passion for telling people about Jesus. Genoveffa touched the lives of everyone she met with her kind and loving nature. Genoveffa is survived by her four children, Pasquale (Lina) Capra, Antonio (Linda) Capra, Marino (Lynnette) Capra, and Christina (Rainer) Megger; cherished grandchildren, Roddy (Heather), Dino(Shannon), Veronica (Mike), Tony Jr. (Kelly), Sam (Gina), Ryan (Emilie), Danielle, Amanda (Ty), and Jennifer and adored great-grandchildren, Sienna, Dino Jr., Gianna, Angelina, Benjamin, Samuel, Joey, and Mia. She loved and embraced every family gathering and deeply enjoyed every moment with her family. May Genoveffa’s zest for life and her love for God live on through them. She will be deeply missed but not forgotten as she was adored and loved by many.
Thank you to family, friends, and Word of Grace Church for the love and support given to Genoveffa. A special thanks to Paster Laurie Krieg for officiating the service and her love and compassion for Genoveffa. She was blessed to have someone with so much kindness and support for so many years. Thank you to all her friends and family members that showed Nonna the love and care she deserved throughout the years and especially at times with health complications and recovery.
Family and friends are welcome from 5-8pm on Monday, August 19th, 2024 at Claridon Woodlands Lodge, 11383 Claridon Troy Road, Chardon, Ohio 44024. The Celebration of Life service will be at 6pm with Pastor Laurie Krieg officiating. Her family will lay her to rest next to her beloved husband, Salvatore, at All Souls Cemetery in Chardon, Ohio.
