Frank James Nelson Jr.

Frank J. Nelson, Jr. died peacefully on Saturday, July 11, 2026, surrounded by family. He was born in Oak Park, IL on May 28,1941, to Frank J. & Dorothy G. Nelson, who preceded him in death.

He grew up in Glen Ellyn, IL, graduating from Glenbard West High School. He attended Southern Illinois University where he played basketball and DePauw University. He worked for Hire-Nelson Company and began his banking career with the Northern Trust Company in Miami, FL in 1977. In 1982, he was recruited by SunBank N.A., an Orlando, FL-based financial institution that later became SunTrust and Truist Financial, eventually running the Trust & Investment Management Group and Investment Banking Division for the northern region of Florida. He took great pride in the many Director volunteer positions he held with Central Florida March of Dimes, Orlando Opera Company, Orlando Regional Healthcare Foundation, Valencia Community College Foundation and Interlachen Country Club. Upon retirement, he loved spending time with his family.

He was married to his wife Susie for 64 years, raising three wonderful daughters and making lifelong friends everywhere they lived. An avid boater, he was always at home on the fly bridge of the beloved Lady Nelson. He was a proud member of Interlachen Country Club in Winter Park, FL and had a lifelong love for the game of golf.

Frank is survived by his wife Susan, daughters Elizabeth Nelson Ireton (Alan), Christine Nelson McMullan (Patrick) and Anne Nelson Sanford. Grandchildren: Caroline McMullan Bondurant (Jack), Lanier, Tripp and James McMullan, Ellie and Olivia Ireton, and James Sanford, Jr. He is also survived by his brothers Douglas (Linda) and Gregory Nelson.
