Robert L. Bowen III
Robert L. Bowen III, 69, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 shortly after being diagnosed with cancer.
He was born on January 23, 1954 and spent most of his life in the Clemson area. He was a 1972 graduate of Daniel High School and a 1976 graduate of Clemson University. He was on staff with Campus Crusade for Christ for many years after graduating from Clemson, during which he had the opportunity for international travel. He retired as the Off-Campus Recruitment Coordinator for the College of Engineering, Computing and Applied Sciences at Clemson University in 2022 after 23 years. He was a member of Clemson Presbyterian Church and was active with the Men’s Bible Study. A life-loyal member of Sigma Chi fraternity, Bob will be remembered for his contagious smile and inspiring impact on decades of younger brothers and fellow alumni to be better men and thoughtful leaders in their schools, churches, and communities. He made Clemson feel like home to many Clemson graduate and undergraduate students, having them over to his house for weekly cook outs and fellowship. International students were especially grateful for his welcome and support. He was an avid Clemson fan, enjoying tailgates and spending time with his wide circle of friends.
Bob was predeceased by his father Robert Luther Bowen, Jr., mother Bonnie Chapman Bowen and his brother, Barry Carlton Bowen.
He is survived by his brother Brian (Edna) Bowen, sister-in-law Lavonda Bowen, his nieces and nephews Chandler, Harrison, Logan, Coker, Brad, Brett, and Bethany.
The family will host a Memorial Service honoring both Robert L. Bowen III and his brother Barry Carlton Bowen on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at 11:00 am at Clemson Presbyterian Church in Clemson, SC.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Clemson Presbyterian Church, 346 Old Greenville Highway, Clemson, SC 29631.
