Betty Jo Burrell
Betty Jo Burrell was born on October 2, 1984, and she passed away at the young age of 41, on January 18th, 2026. She was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed by all who knew her. Betty was a cherished Mom, fiancé, sister, aunt, and friend whose warmth, compassion, and presence left a lasting imprint on the hearts of many.
She is survived by her fiancé, Justin Mathis, as well as her son Harlas Brennon Hill and daughter, Emily Grace, both of whom were deeply important to her and held a special place in her heart. She is also survived by her sisters, Daisy(Taylor) Burrell and Vanessa(Russell) Gooch, with whom she shared a lifelong bond built on love and shared memories.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Annie Paulette McGowan (Fleming) and Melvin Kenneth Burrell, and by her sibling, Jeffrey Corn.
Betty was a loving aunt to her many nieces and nephews: Jacob and James Boyter; Levi and Jax Murphy; Brianna, Paul and Triston Black; Chandler, Jordan, and Jasmine Gooch. Brayden Callaway; and Briana Price. Family meant everything to her, and she found joy in the relationships she nurtured.
Betty’s spirit was unmistakable — she embraced her girly side, loved trinkets and bright colors, and had a flair for being “extra” in every sense. She could make people laugh, roll their eyes, and feel loved all at once. She will be known for her personality, her laughter, her boldness, and the joy she brought into the lives of her family and friends.
Betty will also be remembered for how deeply she loved and how deeply she was loved in return. She had a tender heart, a strong spirit. Though her absence leaves an ache that words cannot fill, her love and memory will live on through her family and all who carry her in their hearts.
The family will host a Celebration of life at Landrum Depot on Friday January 23rd, from 5-7. The address is 211 S 562, Landrum, SC, 29356.
